Lloyd’s Register, in collaboration with Amogy and RotoBoost, is undertaking a study to reduce emissions in the maritime industry. The Joint Development Project (JDP) will assess advanced technologies such as hydrogen fuel cells, ammonia-to-power systems, and pre-combustion Carbon Dioxide Capture Storage systems from technical, financial, and regulatory perspectives. This initiative aims to meet the stringent emissions requirements set by the EU Emissions Trading Scheme and the International Maritime Organization’s Carbon Intensity Indicator. The study will specifically focus on the impact of these technologies on a container feeder fleet compared to traditional fuels. The partnership highlights the significance of innovative energy converters in addressing emissions challenges in the maritime sector, with a focus on sustainability and economic viability. Key technologies being evaluated include Amogy’s ammonia-to-electrical power systems, RotoBoost’s Marine Hydrogen production technology, and PowerCell’s Marine System 200 hydrogen fuel cell. The collaboration aims to provide cleaner energy solutions that not only reduce carbon emissions but also align with regulatory frameworks, offering a competitive edge to the maritime industry.
