INOX Air Products Launches First Green Hydrogen Plant in India for Sustainable Glass Production
Key Ideas
  • INOX Air Products successfully commissions its first Green Hydrogen manufacturing plant at Asahi India Glass Limited’s new float glass facility in Soniyana, Rajasthan.
  • The plant, powered by solar energy, will produce up to 190 tons of Green Hydrogen per year, aiming to significantly reduce CO2 emissions at the facility.
  • A 20-year offtake agreement has been signed for the supply of Green Hydrogen to AIS, marking India’s first use of Green Hydrogen in the float glass manufacturing process.
  • AIS's commitment to sustainability is further strengthened by investing in a solar power plant to support Green Hydrogen production for decarbonization initiatives.
INOX Air Products, India’s largest manufacturer of industrial, electronic, and medical gases, has inaugurated its first Green Hydrogen manufacturing plant in Soniyana, Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. The plant, located at Asahi India Glass Limited’s new float glass facility, is set to produce up to 190 tons of Green Hydrogen annually through solar-powered electrolysis. This initiative marks a significant step in India's sustainable energy transition and decarbonization efforts, with AIS signing a 20-year agreement to receive Green Hydrogen supply. INOXAP will oversee the design, operation, and continuous supply of Green Hydrogen to AIS. The collaboration aims to reduce CO2 emissions at the facility by approximately 1250 MTPA. Siddharth Jain, the Managing Director of INOX Air Products, expressed excitement about this milestone, highlighting the importance of Green Hydrogen in India's energy transition. The utilization of Green Hydrogen in glass manufacturing demonstrates a commitment to sustainability, with Rupinder Shelly, COO of Architectural Glass at Asahi India Glass Ltd, emphasizing their dedication to green and sustainable energy sources. The partnership between AIS and INOX Air Products aligns with AIS's broader sustainability strategy, focusing on reducing the carbon footprint in the glass manufacturing process. This joint effort exemplifies India's position as a leader in renewable energy adoption and sets the stage for future collaborations in sustainable energy initiatives.
