Maire has been awarded an engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) contract worth $125m to deliver a hydrogen production unit to Malaysia. Under this contract, KT Kinetics Technology, supported by NextChem, will develop the unit with the capacity to produce approximately four tonnes per hour of hydrogen for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO) production. The hydrogen production unit (HPU) will utilize NextChem's NX Reform technology and will be transported to the biorefinery in the Penerang Integrated Complex in Johor, Malaysia. This facility is scheduled to commence operations in 2028, aiming to generate 650,000 tonnes per year of raw materials like vegetable oils, animal fats, and waste for SAF and HVO production. Maire's CEO, Alessandro Bernini, highlighted the company's significant role in the energy transition and its capability to offer advanced solutions for renewable fuel production. Additionally, NextChem's subsidiary, NextChem Tech, recently announced the adoption of Vallourec’s hydrogen storage solution to store up to 100 tonnes of gaseous hydrogen. This collaboration underscores the continuous efforts towards sustainable energy practices and the advancement of hydrogen-related technologies in the region.
