Meld Energy has received approval for the development of a 100MW green hydrogen production facility at Saltend Chemicals Park in Hull, UK. The project, known as the Meld Energy Green Hydrogen Hub, is set to bring over £180m of investment to Humber Freeport. Scheduled to commence operations in 2028, the initiative is expected to generate 13,400 tonnes of hydrogen annually, utilizing the region's renewable power sources to replace grey hydrogen and fossil fuels. The East Riding of Yorkshire Council has endorsed the £250m project, which aims to meet 30% of the park's hydrogen demands. With top-tier businesses already operating in the area, such as bp Petrochemicals Technology and Ineos, the hub is poised to play a significant role in the decarbonization efforts of the region. Furthermore, Meld Energy's submission to the government's Hydrogen Production Business Model signifies a step towards broader governmental support for hydrogen production, aligning with the UK's sustainability goals. Chris Smith, the CEO of Meld Energy, highlighted the project's potential to accelerate decarbonization in the Humber region, an area known for its industrial CO2 emissions.
