MHB and FuelCell Energy to Jointly Develop Large-Scale Hydrogen Production Systems in Asia-Pacific
Key Ideas
- MHB and FuelCell Energy's joint agreement aims to co-develop hydrogen production systems across Asia, New Zealand, and Australia.
- FuelCell Energy's SOEC technology and MHB's fabrication expertise will be combined to support rapid deployment of commercial hydrogen production.
- The collaboration includes a detailed feasibility study for a low-carbon fuel production facility in Malaysia, aligning with the country's net-zero emissions target by 2050.
- This project signifies a commitment to advancing green energy solutions and supporting global decarbonisation efforts.
Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Holdings Bhd's subsidiary, Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Sdn Bhd, has partnered with FuelCell Energy Inc. from the United States to jointly develop large-scale hydrogen production systems in Asia, New Zealand, and Australia. This collaboration, following a memorandum of understanding earlier in the year, aims to advance green energy solutions and support global decarbonisation and energy transition goals. FuelCell Energy will contribute its solid oxide electrolyser (SOEC) technology, while MHB will leverage its expertise in large-scale fabrication to develop modular solutions for commercial hydrogen production. The joint agreement also involves a detailed feasibility study for a low-carbon fuel production facility in Malaysia, evaluating the production of low-carbon fuel using SOEC technology with carbon dioxide and water as feedstocks. This effort includes collaboration with KBR LLC to utilize their low-carbon fuel synthesis technology. The project is in line with Malaysia's target to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and aims to advance the country's national hydrogen value chain by integrating innovative technologies and sustainable practices in the energy sector.
