MIIT's Action Plan to Boost Renewable Energy Storage & Hydrogen Production in Resource-Rich Regions
Key Ideas
- MIIT is seeking public opinions on boosting renewable energy storage and hydrogen production in resource-rich regions.
- The plan aims to expand new energy application scenarios, create a green industrial chain, and promote multi-energy complementarity.
- It focuses on utilizing renewable energy for hydrogen production in regions with excess renewable resources and low consumption capacity.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has initiated a public consultation on the Action Plan for the High-Quality Development of the New Energy Storage Manufacturing Industry. The plan emphasizes the rational allocation of new energy storage for thermal power plants and the exploration of various applications in peak shaving and frequency modulation. It targets the expansion of new energy applications like wind, solar, energy storage, and hydrogen to establish a green electricity-green hydrogen-green ammonia/green alcohol industrial chain. The plan also intends to enhance multi-energy complementarity and utilization. Specifically, for areas abundant in renewable energy sources such as deserts, gobi, and wilderness, with low local consumption capacity, the focus is on utilizing renewable energy for hydrogen production.
Furthermore, the plan accelerates the adoption of shared energy storage to bolster the auxiliary service capacity of energy storage for power systems. It also endeavors to promote alternative energy storage solutions in land-scarce or remote regions. Strengthening infrastructure like substations and emergency power supplies is a critical aspect of the plan to enhance grid security capabilities. MIIT's proposal signifies a proactive step towards sustainable energy practices and the integration of hydrogen production in regions with untapped renewable energy potential.
