Nigeria's Minister of State for Environment, Dr Iziaq Salako, believes that Nigeria has the potential to become a global leader in green hydrogen production. Speaking at the International Hydrogen Summit in Ado Ekiti, he highlighted the benefits of green hydrogen as a clean, carbon-neutral fuel that can help Nigeria achieve its goal of net-zero emissions by 2060. As a member of the Green Hydrogen Alliance, Nigeria gains access to cutting-edge research, technology, and investment opportunities, enabling collaboration on global best practices. Dr. Salako emphasized that green hydrogen is not only an energy solution but also a path towards a cleaner, healthier, and more prosperous future for Nigerians. Nigeria's abundant renewable energy resources, particularly in solar power, provide a significant opportunity for large-scale green hydrogen production. Collaboration with international partners like the German government has helped in identifying strategic locations for green hydrogen production and assessing technology readiness and economic feasibility. The government aims to create an enabling environment for clean energy to drive job creation, poverty eradication, economic growth, and environmental health, aligning with Nigeria's Energy Transition Plan.
