NTE and Quantum to Develop Green Hydrogen Production Plant in Campbell River
Key Ideas
  • NTE Discovery Park and Quantum Technology Corp sign an agreement to co-develop a green hydrogen production plant in Campbell River, B.C., Canada.
  • The plant aims to produce green hydrogen using renewable electricity for mobility fuels in Campbell River, Vancouver Island, and Lower Mainland markets.
  • The project, led by industry leaders Dr. Calvin Winter and John Tang, plans a first pilot phase with a 15 metric tons per day production target, contributing to zero CO2 emissions in transportation.
  • Future phases include expanding capacity to deliver green liquid hydrogen to the Pacific Northwest region, emphasizing collaboration with First Nations and stakeholders for effective project development.
NTE Discovery Park Ltd. and Quantum Technology Corp have entered into a partnership to develop a green hydrogen production plant in Campbell River, British Columbia, Canada. The project, outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding signed on June 3rd, 2024, aims to produce green hydrogen using renewable electricity. The initial phase targets a daily production of 15 metric tons of green hydrogen gas to fuel transportation in Campbell River, Vancouver Island, and the Lower Mainland markets. This initiative is crucial in reducing CO2 emissions and combating climate change. Notably, green hydrogen can enable various vehicles like ferries, buses, trucks, trains, and cars to operate with zero CO2 emissions. Dr. Calvin Winter, President of Quantum Technology Corp, and John Tang, CEO of New Times Energy Corp Ltd, envision hydrogen also being blended with natural gas to further reduce CO2 emissions. The project's second phase plans to scale up production to deliver green liquid hydrogen to the Pacific Northwest region for heavy transportation needs. NTE and Quantum are committed to collaborating with First Nations and other stakeholders to ensure the project's development aligns with environmental and community interests. NTE Discovery Park Ltd., based in Campbell River, and Quantum Technology Corp, located in Squamish, are set to lead the way in green hydrogen production technology, emphasizing sustainability and innovation in the Canadian energy sector.
