The Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Belgium have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bolster their collaboration in green hydrogen during His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik's state visit to Belgium. The agreement, inked between Hydrogen Oman (Hydrom) and the Belgian Hydrogen Council (BHC), aims to strengthen cooperation across the hydrogen value chain and advance the global hydrogen economy. The MoU underscores joint efforts to align policies, promote knowledge exchange, and explore opportunities in hydrogen production, infrastructure, transportation, and utilization. It also paves the way for broader cooperation with other European countries by addressing legislative challenges and fostering research and development opportunities. H.E. Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Oman's Minister of Energy and Minerals and Chairman of Hydrom, highlighted the significance of the MoU in advancing the shared ambition of Oman and Belgium to shape the future of the global hydrogen economy. The partnership intends to leverage Oman's potential as a green hydrogen production hub and Belgium's role as a strategic connection point to European markets to strengthen energy security and establish a seamless hydrogen supply chain. Building on 46 years of robust bilateral relations, the agreement builds on key milestones in the green energy sector, including projects like the Hyport Duqm project and international alliances between OQ Alternative Energy and DEME aimed at green hydrogen production and exportation. The collaboration also follows a declaration of intent in 2023 to advance hydrogen certification and trade frameworks between the two countries. Oman's focus on becoming a global hydrogen hub is reinforced by its commitment to fostering international partnerships that drive sustainable development and technological advancement. Hydrom's pivotal role as the national orchestrator of Oman's green hydrogen strategy is central to facilitating transformative projects and infrastructural development in the pursuit of a cleaner energy future.
