Nestlé Purina PetCare, in partnership with The Kenan Advantage Group, Inc. (KAG) and Nikola Corporation, has initiated a zero-tailpipe-emission delivery service using a hydrogen fuel cell electric semi-truck for the first time. The truck is currently transporting Purina products, including Tidy Cats cat litter, between Stockton, Maricopa, and Modesto in California. This move is part of Purina's larger strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainability. Purina's manufacturing approach focuses on regional production and distribution to minimize long-distance trucking. The Class 8 Nikola hydrogen fuel cell electric semi-truck has a range of up to 500 miles and can be refueled in under 20 minutes, all while producing zero tailpipe emissions. The collaboration aims to help Purina achieve its sustainability goals by implementing energy-efficient technologies in the supply chain. Purina's efforts extend beyond transportation. At its Maricopa factory, the company has adopted solar drying technology for the clay used in Tidy Cats litter, resulting in significant energy savings. Additionally, Purina is reducing its reliance on virgin plastics by introducing 100 percent recycled content in Tidy Cats litter jugs and reusable pail refill bags to minimize plastic waste. The collaboration between Purina, KAG, and Nikola Corporation signifies a commitment to driving innovation and environmental responsibility in the transportation industry. By leveraging hydrogen fuel cell technology and sustainable practices like solar drying and recycled packaging, Purina is taking meaningful steps towards a more sustainable future.
