Scotland has unveiled its first hydrogen sector export strategy, titled 'A Trading Nation: Realising Scotland’s Hydrogen Potential – A Plan for Exports,' which aims to establish the nation as a leader in the production and export of clean hydrogen fuel. The strategy outlines ambitious targets, with Scotland looking to deliver up to 3.3 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2045, which could meet around 90% of the country's current energy demand. This initiative includes plans to enhance hydrogen demand, infrastructure, and exports, while also exploring the feasibility of hydrogen pipelines to mainland Europe and Ireland. Acting Energy Secretary Gillian Martin highlighted the significant opportunities that hydrogen presents for Scotland, drawing parallels to the historical importance of oil and gas for the nation.
