Technip Energies Awarded FEED Contract for BP's H2Teesside Project in UK
Key Ideas
  • Technip Energies awarded FEED contract for H2Teesside project by BP, a significant step towards low-carbon hydrogen production in the UK.
  • The project aims to deliver 1.2 GW of low-carbon hydrogen production and capture over 2 million tonnes of CO2 annually, contributing to the UK's 2030 hydrogen production target.
  • Technip's expertise in hydrogen and carbon capture technologies positions them well to provide innovative solutions aligning with the UK's decarbonization goals.
  • H2Teesside project is part of the East Coast Cluster, integrating with other decarbonization initiatives to transform Teesside into a prominent hydrogen hub.
Technip Energies has secured the front-end engineering design (FEED) contract from BP for the H2Teesside project in the northeast of the UK. The project is set to become one of the largest low-carbon hydrogen production facilities in the country and will incorporate carbon capture technology. Technip's scope includes designing a comprehensive solution that integrates hydrogen and carbon capture technologies to achieve 1.2 GW of low-carbon hydrogen production, a significant portion of the UK's 2030 target. Additionally, the project aims to capture and store over 2 million tonnes of CO2 annually, equivalent to the emissions from heating 1 million UK households. Mario Tommaselli, Technip's senior vice president for gas and low-carbon energies, highlighted the company's expertise in technology integration for large-scale projects. The integrated H2Teesside hydrogen production and distribution pipeline will be part of the East Coast Cluster, connecting with other decarbonization ventures in the region. The captured CO2 will be transferred to the Northern Endurance Partnership CO2 gathering system. Andy Lane, BP's vice president for hydrogen and carbon capture, emphasized the pivotal role of the H2Teesside project in decarbonizing industry in Teesside and advancing the UK's low-carbon hydrogen economy. The project's progression towards engineering, procurement, and construction contracts signifies significant milestones in realizing its goals.
