Thermax, in partnership with Ceres Power Limited, has embarked on a strategic collaboration to enhance the production of green hydrogen through advanced solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) technology. This collaboration enables Thermax to manufacture, sell, and service stack array modules (SAM) and develop SAM balance of modules (SBM) and multi-megawatt SOEC electrolyser modules. The partnership aims to drive the deployment of more efficient hydrogen production systems for industries like ammonia, steel, refineries, and chemicals. Thermax will leverage its expertise in heat integration and waste heat recovery to manufacture pressurized SAM, SBM, and multi-MW SOEC electrolyzer modules. By utilizing steam generated from industrial process heat and waste heat recovery, the collaboration promises systems that are up to 25% more efficient than current low-temperature electrolysis technologies, providing a viable solution for decarbonizing hard-to-abate industries. As part of the commercialization strategy, Thermax plans to establish a manufacturing facility, develop the supply chain, and localize critical components. This initiative aligns with India's target to produce 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030 and supports global efforts for sustainable energy transition.
