Toyota Tsusho Europe and Messer are set to build the first hydrogen production plant in the port of Barcelona to supply hydrogen for vehicles. The joint venture, SympH2ony, formed by Toyota and Messer, will oversee the construction of the plant located on land owned by the municipality of El Prat. This initiative will be crucial in decarbonizing the truck fleet operating in the Catalan area. However, it is noted that addressing issues such as financing sustainable fleets remains a top priority for transport companies. The project aims to provide hydrogen mobility solutions for fleets, emphasizing renewable hydrogen, zero-emission vehicles, and reliable operation. Through a billing system based on fleet mileage, total operating costs are kept predictable. The collaboration between Toyota and Messer combines Toyota's expertise in developing mobility value chains with Messer's extensive experience in hydrogen. The plant is part of a broader effort to enable companies, municipalities, and port operators in Europe to transition to green hydrogen-powered vehicles. This initiative represents a significant step towards sustainable transportation in the region.
