UK's First Large-Scale Low-Carbon Hydrogen Plant Development with EPC Contract
Key Ideas
  • Essar Energy Transition Hydrogen selects ENKA for the construction of the HPP1, a major milestone in the UK's low-carbon hydrogen industry.
  • The HPP1 project, supported by UK Government funding, is crucial in decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors through large-scale hydrogen production and carbon capture.
  • ENKA's expertise and track record in delivering complex projects make them a valuable partner in advancing the UK's sustainable energy goals.
  • EET Hydrogen's plans for additional facilities like HPP2 showcase a commitment to becoming a leading producer of low-carbon hydrogen in the UK.
Essar Energy Transition (EET) Hydrogen in the UK has partnered with ENKA, a company based in Istanbul, for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) work on the HPP1 project at the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex. This project, located in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, is the nation's first large-scale, low-carbon hydrogen production plant. The EPC contract signed between EET Hydrogen and ENKA marks a significant step forward in advancing the UK's low-carbon hydrogen industry. With a production capacity of 350 MW and the ability to capture 600,000 tonnes of CO2 annually starting in 2026, the HPP1 project is funded by the UK Government and forms part of the HyNet industrial decarbonization cluster. This cluster aims to reduce emissions and support sustainable economic growth by integrating hydrogen production, supply, and carbon capture technologies. ENKA's expertise and global experience make them a strategic partner for EET Hydrogen in this ambitious undertaking. Additionally, EET Hydrogen is developing the HPP2 facility, expected to be one of the world's largest with a capacity of up to 1000 MW, further solidifying their position as a key player in the low-carbon hydrogen market.
