The Appalachian Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub (ARCH2) has marked a significant milestone with the opening of a program office in Morgantown, WV, to propel the region's hydrogen economy. Comprising 11 project development partners, ARCH2 focuses on building hydrogen production, transportation, storage, and end-use facilities. The hub's goal is to produce hydrogen with minimal carbon emissions to support the nation's clean energy objectives. Led by Battelle and supported by various partners, ARCH2 is a collaborative initiative involving private industry, governments, academic institutions, and non-profit organizations to establish a safe and sustainable clean hydrogen ecosystem in Appalachia. The project, funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, has received $30 million for Phase 1 activities, emphasizing planning, design, and community engagement. The diverse portfolio of projects under ARCH2 includes different technologies, feedstock delivery pathways, and end-use sectors to ensure a comprehensive approach. NETL's participation in ARCH2 involves conducting analyses, market assessments, and driving the deployment of low-cost, clean hydrogen to boost economic growth and create jobs. The initiative aligns with DOE's efforts to accelerate the commercial-scale deployment of clean hydrogen, provide clean power, energy storage solutions, and decarbonize industries and transportation. With a focus on sustainability and collaboration, ARCH2 aims to create a thriving regional network for hydrogen manufacturing and production.
