The Maritime and Aquaculture Professional Academy of Bastia (LPMA) in Corsica has introduced the innovative fisheries training vessel Alba, marking a significant advancement in sustainable marine technology. Designed by Mauric, Alba is the first vessel in France to utilize hydrogen-electric propulsion, showcasing a move towards zero-emission vessels. With a €4 million grant from the France 2030 Recovery Plan, LPMA partnered with Mauric and other key players in the hydrogen sector to bring this project to fruition. Mauric's expertise in marine architecture and complex systems integration played a crucial role in designing a highly efficient vessel that exceeded performance expectations. Alba's design includes two 70kW REXH2 Range Extenders and 178kWh battery packs, ensuring a maximum speed of 13 knots and an 11-hour autonomy at 10 knots. The vessel, tailored for fishing training, can accommodate up to 12 students and two instructors/crew members, featuring a versatile deck layout and fishing capabilities. Alba's launch in July 2024 at the CN Gatto shipyard in Martigues marked a major milestone for Mauric and the French hydrogen sector, demonstrating the feasibility and readiness of hydrogen technology in commercial vessels. After successful sea trials, Alba safely arrived at its home port of Bastia on 7th November, setting a new standard for sustainable maritime operations.
