The Vaal University of Technology, in collaboration with Standard Bank, has officially launched the Standard Bank Hydrogen Centre of Excellence. This initiative is a significant milestone in advancing South Africa's green hydrogen economy, focusing on sustainable development, skills training, and economic growth in the Vaal Triangle and beyond. Standard Bank's commitment to a just energy transition and achieving net zero emissions is evident through its funding support for this three-year partnership with VUT. The Centre will support researchers and students in exploring green technologies and addressing the skills gap in managing hydrogen systems. The launch event featured key highlights such as the partnership signing, funding announcement, insightful presentations on green hydrogen, and the handover of laptops to deserving students. With confirmed speakers including the VUT vice-chancellor, director of Resource Mobilisation, and industry representatives, the event aims to engage media, stakeholders, and the local industry in discussions around the centre's strategic objectives.
