Ballard Power Systems Inc. and Vertiv have entered into a partnership deal focusing on the use of hydrogen-powered fuel cell systems for backup power applications in data centres. Vertiv, known for manufacturing power and cooling systems for data centres, aims to offer cost-effective, zero greenhouse gas emission fuel cell backup power solutions in collaboration with Ballard. Nicolas Pocard, Ballard's vice-president of marketing and strategic partnership, expressed excitement about the agreement, highlighting the scalability of these solutions. Vertiv has already conducted a proof of concept at its Ohio facility using Ballard fuel cell power modules within an uninterruptible power system, demonstrating successful operation of zero GHG emission backup power integrated into the architectural setup. The announcement positively impacted Ballard's stock performance, with shares increasing by almost nine per cent on the Toronto Stock Exchange following the news release.
