Chongqing in Southwest China has inaugurated a groundbreaking initiative by launching the 1,150-kilometer 'Hydrogen Corridor' as part of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor. This marks the establishment of the first cross-regional hydrogen truck line in China. Ten hydrogen-powered trucks have commenced their journey from Chongqing, transporting a variety of goods to multiple destinations including Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Malaysia. The corridor is strategically designed to address the challenges of long-distance and high-altitude transportation, with one of its sections featuring a steep climb of over 650 meters from Baise to Guiyang. Several key players in the hydrogen energy industry, such as Meijin Energy and Bosch Hydrogen Powertrain Systems, are actively involved in this ambitious project. Meijin Energy, a significant hydrogen fuel supplier for this route, is leveraging Chongqing's abundant natural gas and shale gas resources for hydrogen production. Additionally, companies like Changan Automobile and Qingling Motors are contributing to the development and deployment of hydrogen-powered vehicles, showcasing Chongqing's vital role in advancing hydrogen energy applications. As part of the initiative, the city of Chongqing is promoting the establishment of hydrogen refueling stations along the route, with plans to synchronize hydrogen pricing policies to enhance operational efficiency. The future expansion plans include focusing on short- and medium-haul logistics in key cities like Chongqing, Lanzhou, Xi'an, and Chengdu. By 2027, the project aims to have over 1,500 hydrogen trucks operating along these routes, resulting in a significant reduction of carbon emissions by 200,000 tons annually. The comprehensive approach includes infrastructure development, industry collaboration, and emission reduction targets, reinforcing Chongqing's commitment to sustainable transportation solutions.
