A consortium led by property developer LBS Bina Group has unveiled plans to establish a 10-GW green hydrogen hub in the Malaysian state of Sabah, particularly in the district of Kota Marudu. The project, aimed at driving economic growth and creating job opportunities, is set to be developed on a site spanning 15,000 to 30,000 acres. With support from entities like Invest Sabah Berhad, Sabah Forestry Development Authority (Safoda), and Midwest Green Sdn Bhd, the initiative will focus on aligning with sustainability goals at both national and state levels. The envisioned electrolyzer facility within the hub is slated to produce 250,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually, complemented by plans for an industrial park powered by renewable energy sources like solar and wind. The strategic selection of Kota Marudu, known for its abundant solar irradiance and consistent high wind speeds, coupled with its proximity to shipping ports, highlights the region's potential to serve as a key green energy hub. Expressing excitement about the partnership, Tan Sri Lim Hock San, LBS Group executive chairman, emphasized the collaborative efforts in land surveys, site inspections, and consortium structuring to ensure optimal project outcomes. The consortium's dedication to sustainable development mirrors Malaysia's commitment to clean energy, paving the way for a transformative shift towards renewable energy in the region.
