Toyota Motor Corp. has revealed plans to establish a forward-thinking smart city named Woven City at the base of Mount Fuji. This innovative city will integrate cutting-edge technologies such as hydrogen power, autonomous mobility, and artificial intelligence. The project was unveiled by Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda at CES in Las Vegas, marking the company's return to the technology trade show after five years. Woven City, set in Susono, Shizuoka Prefecture, will initially house Toyota employees before expanding to accommodate a diverse community of 2,000 residents, including individuals from outside the Toyota group. The city will serve as a testing ground for various advanced technologies, with businesses like Daikin Industries and Dydo Drinco already on board. Toyota aims to invite more companies, particularly startups, to participate and test their innovations in areas such as autonomous driving and delivery services. Construction of Woven City began in 2021 on the site of a former Toyota plant, with plans to grow the complex into a significant 700,000-square-meter area. The project is being overseen by Woven by Toyota Inc., a subsidiary of the automaker, and has established capital partnerships with companies like NTT Corp. to ensure a green hydrogen power supply for the city's operations.
