The US Department of Transportation recently announced grants totaling $635 million to support the expansion of electric vehicle charging infrastructure and clean transportation across 27 states, four tribal areas, and the District of Columbia. The funding includes $368 million for community electric vehicle charging projects and $268 million for fast-charging projects along designated corridors. More than 11,500 EV charging ports, as well as hydrogen and natural gas fueling infrastructure, will be installed through these grants. Projects include the installation of EV charging ports in community locations such as the Cherokee Nation in Northeast Oklahoma and the City of Troy, Alabama. Additionally, corridor projects like the construction of a hydrogen fueling station in Bayport, Texas, and the deployment of alternative fueling infrastructure along interstate corridors in Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and West Virginia are funded. The grants aim to create job opportunities, promote innovation, and offer more accessible and equitable transportation options. The Biden administration's emphasis on clean transportation is evident through these initiatives, aiming to accelerate the transition to zero-emission vehicles and reduce carbon emissions in the transportation sector. The grants were made available through the bipartisan infrastructure law and highlight government efforts to maximize federal investments and prepare the energy grid for the future.
