Air Liquide, in partnership with TotalEnergies, has revealed plans for major investments to advance the decarbonization of European industry and mobility through hydrogen production. The companies are set to embark on two significant electrolyzer projects in Europe focusing on renewable and low-carbon hydrogen production. The ELYgator project, a 200MW electrolyzer in Rotterdam, aims to generate up to 23,000 tons of hydrogen annually by harnessing renewable energy from offshore wind farms. Additionally, a joint venture between Air Liquide and TotalEnergies will see the development of a 250MW electrolyzer in Zeeland, Netherlands, with a target of producing 30,000 tons of hydrogen per year. These projects, totaling over 1 billion euros in investments, are projected to help prevent 500,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. The initiatives underscore Air Liquide's and TotalEnergies' dedication to offering tangible solutions for carbon reduction, with backing from European and Dutch funding initiatives. TotalEnergies' focus on using renewable electricity from offshore projects further emphasizes the companies' holistic approach to energy and their commitment to driving sustainable practices in European industry and mobility.
