The Australian government has granted major project status to three significant resource projects with a combined value of nearly $70 billion to boost the nation's clean energy and critical minerals development. The NiWest Nickel Cobalt project, the Murchison Green Hydrogen project, and the Australian Renewable Energy Hub have been selected for fast-tracking due to their national importance in contributing to economic growth and employment. The Murchison Green Hydrogen project, funded by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, is set to generate 6 gigawatts of renewable energy annually and produce 2 million tonnes of green ammonia, creating thousands of jobs. The NiWest project, adjacent to Glencore's operations, aims to produce nickel and cobalt and will employ more than 400 individuals over its 50-year lifespan. The Australian Renewable Energy Hub in the Pilbara region, led by BP, plans to supply renewable power, green hydrogen, and green ammonia, with significant employment opportunities during both construction and operation.
