China Energy Investment Group has shown interest in investing in renewable energy projects in Sarawak, Malaysia. The chairman of the Group expressed this intention during a meeting with a Sarawak delegation led by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah in Shanghai, China. The company is specifically looking into opportunities for floating solar projects with a capacity of 2 gigawatts, as well as investments in waste to energy and water treatment plants. Sarawak's potential for green hydrogen production is also attractive to China Energy, with plans for a plant producing 200,000 tonnes of green methanol. China Energy is a leader in green energy initiatives and is currently constructing China's largest green hydrogen and ammonia plant, scheduled to be operational in 2026. To support Sarawak's green energy strategies, the company aims to establish a center for renewable energy to develop local skills and talent. These investments align with Sarawak's goals of economic prosperity, social inclusivity, and environmental sustainability, as emphasized by Awang Tengah. The delegation included key officials from Ministry of International Trade, Industry, and Investment Sarawak, INVEST Sarawak, and RECODA, showcasing the collaborative effort to drive renewable energy development in the region.
