The European Commission has announced a substantial investment of €422 million in 39 initiatives under the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF) call for projects. This funding aims to bolster alternative fuel infrastructure across Europe, with a strong focus on hydrogen technologies. The selected projects will facilitate the deployment of electric fast chargers, hydrogen refuelling stations, and alternative fuels for maritime transport, such as ammonia and methanol. In the hydrogen sector, notable projects include the development of hydrogen stations at airports like Paris Charles de Gaulle and Lyon Saint-Exupéry, along with initiatives in Nantes, Germany, and Spain. These projects range from high-capacity hydrogen stations to hydrogen derivatives like ammonia and methanol storage solutions led by companies like Engie Cofely, ESH2, Air Products, Scale Gas Solutions, HVR Energy, and CEPSA. The €63 million allocated to hydrogen and its derivatives demonstrates a strategic commitment to advancing sustainable and zero-emission transportation infrastructure in Europe. The investment is expected to significantly accelerate the adoption of hydrogen technologies and foster innovation in the renewable energy and transportation sectors.
