The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, recently organized the 4th edition of the Global Renewable Energy Investors' Meet and Expo (RE-INVEST 2024) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. A key highlight was the CEO Roundtable focusing on accelerating green hydrogen production and green jobs in Gujarat. The roundtable, chaired by S J Haider, emphasized the state's commitment to developing a robust green hydrogen ecosystem. Gujarat aims to produce 3 million metric tons per annum of Green Hydrogen, showcasing strategic advantages and potential contributions to India's National Green Hydrogen Mission. Industry leaders and startups engaged in discussions on making green hydrogen economically viable, with insights on pricing, industrial clusters, and logistical challenges. Innovative startups like Newtrace and Ossus Biorenewables presented ideas on leveraging biomass and wastewater for green hydrogen production, emphasizing cost-effectiveness and environmental sustainability. Gujarat's strength in renewable energy was highlighted, with over 12 GW of wind power, 14 GW of solar power capacity, and the highest rooftop solar capacity in the country. The state's Renewable Energy Policy 2023 has attracted investments and fostered growth, with a current RE capacity of over 29 GW contributing significantly to the state's energy mix. Gujarat aims to achieve 100 GW of RE by 2030 and source 50% of electricity from renewables. The state is venturing into offshore wind, wind-solar hybrid projects, and energy storage systems to promote continuous power supply. Plans include a 500 MW offshore wind project and potential for pumped hydro projects.
