Professor Ganapati Myneni stressed the significance of investing in green hydrogen production infrastructure by expanding renewable energy sources for electrolysis, establishing storage and distribution networks, and fostering collaborations to drive innovation and cost efficiency. India's target of energy independence by 2047 and net-zero emissions by 2070 underscores the pivotal role green hydrogen is set to play, citing the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The process of electrolysis is highlighted as deriving green hydrogen by splitting water using electricity from renewable sources, offering a clean and emission-free alternative to fossil fuels. The government is urged to ramp up R&D investments to enhance hydrogen technologies, attract investments, and facilitate public-private partnerships. India's focus on hydrogen is evident through initiatives like the National Hydrogen Mission and increased budget allocation, reflecting a commitment to sustainable energy. With ambitions to become a global hub for green hydrogen production, usage, and export, India aims for self-reliance through clean energy, positioning itself as a leader in the energy transition and technology innovation.
