During the 14th APEC Energy Ministers’ Meeting in Lima, Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof expressed Malaysia's confidence in the APEC Policy Guidance for developing and implementing Low-Carbon Hydrogen Policy frameworks in the Asia Pacific region. He emphasized the importance of comprehensive policy frameworks across APEC economies to accelerate the transition to low-carbon hydrogen, focusing on regulatory coherence, technology sharing, and investment flows. Malaysia's commitment to a sustainable energy future is reflected in its phased approach to hydrogen development, transitioning from grey to green hydrogen. Initiatives such as the Sarawak Hydrogen Hub demonstrate Malaysia's dedication to innovation and sustainability, aiming to export green hydrogen by 2027. Fadillah highlighted the significance of public-private partnerships in advancing hydrogen technologies, showcasing examples of successful collaborations in Malaysia. The government has implemented policies and incentives to encourage private sector investments in hydrogen technologies, including tax breaks, research subsidies, and funding for pilot projects. Malaysia is also working on integrating hydrogen blending with natural gas and adopting green ammonia for co-firing to decarbonize its power sector.
