Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners has injected £100 million into Aegis Energy to finance the development of hydrogen refuelling infrastructure for fleets in the UK. Transport, responsible for 29% of the UK's greenhouse gas emissions, is a primary focus. Aegis Energy, a London-based startup, intends to launch a network of five multi-refuelling stations by the end of 2027, with the first station set to open in early 2026. These stations are planned in key locations like Sheffield, Immingham, Warrington, Corby, and Towcester. The company aims to tackle challenges in installing depot infrastructure by securing substantial grid connections. By 2030, Aegis Energy plans to expand its network to 30 multi-refuelling hubs, each estimated to reduce carbon-equivalent emissions by 14,300 tonnes annually. The hubs will offer various clean energy options such as hydrogen, bio-compressed natural gas, hydro-treated vegetable oil, and electric vehicle charging. Aegis Energy's co-founder highlighted the importance of providing fleets with diverse clean energy choices to facilitate a smooth transition. This initiative aligns with the UK government's commitment to phasing out non-zero emission vehicles by 2035, showcasing a positive step towards sustainable transportation solutions.
