Three Companies Collaborate to Invest in Hydrogen Trucks in Northeast Netherlands
Key Ideas
  • Three companies in Northeast Netherlands are investing in six MAN Trucks running on hydrogen, with delivery expected by early 2026.
  • A SWIM subsidy has been requested for the trucks, encouraging hydrogen filling station and vehicle development in the region.
  • MAN Truck & Bus has a history in hydrogen powertrains, being the first European manufacturer to produce trucks with hydrogen combustion engines.
  • The trucks offer emission-free driving, high payload, and fast refueling, contributing to the expansion of the hydrogen infrastructure.
Three companies in the Northeast of the Netherlands are teaming up to invest in six MAN Trucks that will run on hydrogen. Zuidema Groep, Roelofs, and Fieten Olie are purchasing the trucks and are expected to have two each by early 2026. The trucks will be delivered via the Roordink commercial vehicle centre in Zwolle. A SWIM subsidy, aimed at advancing hydrogen filling stations and vehicles, has been requested for this initiative. MAN Truck & Bus, known for its research in hydrogen powertrains, is the first European truck manufacturer to produce trucks with hydrogen combustion engines. The trucks offer emission-free driving and are particularly suitable for special applications in regions with sufficient hydrogen availability. The hydrogen trucks are expected to be available in the third quarter of 2025, with the first hydrogen filling station planned to open at Fieten Olie in Steenwijk by the second half of the following year. This initiative is viewed positively by the involved parties as a significant step in the energy transition, providing concrete opportunities for using hydrogen in heavy mobility and contributing to the expansion of the hydrogen infrastructure.
