Canada has recently passed Bill C-49, aimed at amending Acts related to the Atlantic provinces to unlock the potential of offshore wind energy. This legislative development is in partnership with Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador. The legislation enables the development of a joint management regulatory framework for offshore renewable energy projects. It includes changing the names of regulatory bodies, expanding their mandates, and aligning with the Impact Assessment Act. The focus is on supporting the marine conservation agenda, modernizing land tenure regimes for petroleum development, and ensuring maximum economic returns for Newfoundland and Labrador.
