The European Commission has recently given the green light to a €1.2 billion Spanish scheme designed to accelerate investments in renewable hydrogen production, aimed at facilitating the transition to a net-zero economy. This initiative, approved under the State aid Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework (TCTF), which was initially introduced in March 2023 and further updated in November 2023 and May 2024, signifies a strategic move towards promoting sustainable energy practices. The scheme, fully financed through the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), is a result of the Commission's favorable evaluation of Spain's Recovery and Resilience Plan, as well as its endorsement by the Council. The primary focus of this initiative is to encourage investments in renewable hydrogen production, targeting a minimum installed capacity of 100 MW. Supported investments may encompass various aspects of renewable hydrogen production infrastructure, ultimately contributing to the country's broader goals of achieving a cleaner and more sustainable energy landscape.
