A surge in global initiatives is driving the development of hydrogen transmission networks, with countries like Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and the European Hydrogen Backbone project aiming to establish extensive networks by 2030. Oman's Hydrom is planning to build pipelines, while the UAE is strategically positioning itself with its National Hydrogen Strategy and Abu Dhabi Low Carbon Hydrogen Policy. The UAE intends to repurpose its existing gas network to create a dedicated hydrogen transmission network, with a vision to cover 2,200 kilometers by 2040. Leveraging offshore blue hydrogen potential and abundant solar resources, this network is anticipated to enable the transport of low-cost hydrogen to various locations, including export terminals. The plan includes two main corridors, the Coastal and Inland Corridors, connecting hydrogen oases and facilitating exports. To ensure the success of this ambitious project, a unified, integrated planning approach and regulatory clarity are deemed essential, involving collaboration among various stakeholders across the energy, infrastructure, and utility sectors.
