A consortium, granted 12 million euros by NWO and the National Growth Fund programme GroenvermogenNL, will investigate the socio-economic impact of green hydrogen for a sustainable energy system. Termed HySUCCESS, the consortium aims to overcome barriers hindering the implementation of green hydrogen by evaluating economic, legal, policy, and socio-cultural aspects impacting its adoption. With a focus on green hydrogen production, the project will assess environmental impacts and develop strategies to promote its use in future energy systems. The consortium comprises 10 universities, 2 research institutes, 5 universities of applied sciences, one research organization, and 3 industry partners, ensuring a diverse range of expertise. Led by CWI, one of the consortium's main participants, the project encompasses five themes spearheaded by various Dutch knowledge institutions, including market and business model development, legal frameworks, public acceptability, and research integration. Researchers aim to develop new models for hydrogen-electricity markets to address network congestion issues in the Dutch power grid. The HySUCCESS project also emphasizes the importance of public acceptability and the legal framework surrounding hydrogen adoption. The National Growth Fund Programme GroenvermogenNL, supporting this initiative until 2028, focuses on transitioning the Dutch economy and society towards green hydrogen as a sustainable energy source. By investing in green capability and fostering knowledge sharing, the programme aims to drive innovation, industry growth, and a shift towards sustainable energy practices in the Netherlands.
