Air Liquide Egypt and United Energy Group (UEG) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on sustainable energy transition projects in Egypt, specifically targeting the production of low-carbon ammonia derived from renewable hydrogen. Egypt, with its plentiful renewable resources and supportive ecosystem, is on track to become a global leader in the renewable energy sector. UEG, known for its involvement in renewable projects globally, has a strategic focus on Egypt and is forging partnerships along the entire energy value chain. Air Liquide, established in Egypt since 2002, will use its extensive presence and technological know-how in the energy transition to assist UEG in developing renewable-based ammonia production. The collaboration includes providing nitrogen for the project and jointly creating solutions to tackle the challenges posed by the intermittency of renewable energy sources, thereby ensuring cost-effective ammonia production. This initiative builds upon Air Liquide's experience in advancing technologies for low-carbon production in various industries. Gu Xiaodong, Vice President of Green Hydrogen at UEG, highlighted the significance of partnering with Air Liquide to drive green hydrogen projects in Egypt. By merging local resources with Air Liquide's technologies and infrastructure, the aim is to establish green ammonia production facilities in the region, aligning with Egypt's green hydrogen objectives. Prean Chetty, General Manager of Air Liquide Egypt, emphasized the collaboration as a crucial step in supporting Egypt's energy transition. The commitment lies in utilizing state-of-the-art technologies and expertise to facilitate sustainable energy solutions and contribute to Egypt's renewable energy targets.
