The Albanese Labor Government in Australia is making significant investments in the TAFE sector to train the next generation of skilled workers in green energy technologies. The $2.1 million TAFE SA Green Energy Technology Training Academy project will establish training hubs in Whyalla and Tonsley, along with a mobile training facility to reach regional and remote areas of South Australia. Notably, the academy will utilize technology to simulate a physical hydrogen plant, providing students with a realistic training experience. Around 3,500 students are expected to be trained annually in electrotechnology and automotive courses to meet the growing demand for skills in the hydrogen and green energy sectors. The Government's $1.5 billion Fee-Free TAFE Skills Agreement has already enabled 16,000 students in South Australia to access free TAFE courses, with plans to expand this initiative nationwide with 320,000 Fee-Free TAFE and VET places in the next three years. Minister for Skills and Training, Andrew Giles, emphasized the government's commitment to providing high-quality training for a net-zero economy, while Member for Boothby, Louise Miller-Frost, highlighted the importance of this training for local students to excel in emerging green energy technologies.
