An international consortium, including CWP Global, Intercontinental Energy, and Mirning Green Energy, is planning to build a 50 GW solar-and-wind energy hub in Australia's southwest. The consortium has partnered with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) to develop one of the largest green hydrogen production facilities globally. The Western Green Energy Hub (WGEH) in Western Australia aims to have 50 GW of solar and wind generation to produce green hydrogen for both domestic consumption and export. The collaboration with KEPCO will lead to a detailed feasibility study, starting with a first stage comprising 6 GW of solar and wind capacity. This project is expected to position Australia as a major player in the green hydrogen sector, especially in the Korean market. The consortium plans to leverage the expertise of KEPCO and engage with various stakeholders to ensure the project's success. The Australian government's support through incentives and initiatives like the Future Made in Australia program further boosts the project's prospects. The WGEH anticipates a final investment decision in 2029, with production commencing around 2032.
