Australia has granted 'major project status' to the Australian Renewable Energy Hub (AREH), along with two other projects in the green hydrogen and critical minerals sector. This move is seen as a significant boost to the renewable energy and green hydrogen industry in Australia. The AREH project, with a planned investment of $20 billion, aims to deploy a massive 26 GW capacity of solar and wind energy spread across 6,500 square km in Western Australia. This enormous capacity will power electrolyzers capable of producing 1.6 million tonnes of green hydrogen and nine million tonnes of green ammonia annually. These products are intended for both domestic use and export markets, positioning Australia as a major player in the green energy sector. Additionally, the Murchison green hydrogen development and NiWest nickel cobalt project, also receiving major project status, are set to contribute significantly to renewable energy production and the supply of critical minerals crucial for future technologies. The combined investment in these projects amounts to around $31 billion, signaling a strong commitment by the Australian government towards sustainable energy development and economic growth.
