TÜV Rheinland, a leading technical services company, has granted its first pre-certification in India to Avaada Group for a green hydrogen and green ammonia project in Gopalpur, Odisha. The project, designed to produce 0.5 MMTPA of green ammonia, aims to cater to both domestic and international markets. Avaada Group secured $1.07 billion in financing for its hydrogen and green ammonia initiatives in India. The project underwent assessment for compliance with product design, production, storage, and transport criteria, receiving pre-certification for renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO) under the EU's RED II directive. This certification validates that Avaada's hydrogen and ammonia production emits lower levels of greenhouse gases compared to conventional fuels, meeting European requirements. Vineet Mittal, Chairman of Avaada Group, highlighted the importance of this certification in demonstrating the company's adherence to international standards, setting a new industry benchmark in India. The certification enhances Avaada's global market position, creating opportunities for new partnerships and business growth. TÜV Rheinland officials also emphasized the significance of green hydrogen in the global energy transition, strengthening Avaada's commitment to sustainable production. The TÜV Rheinland H2.21 RED II standard for hydrogen encompasses various categories, offering customers a comprehensive approach to verifying climate aspects with a single certification. Avaada's pre-design certification by TÜV Rheinland not only sets a new standard but also adds credibility to its green hydrogen and ammonia projects, attracting investors and customers who prioritize sustainability and environmental compliance.
