Avina Clean Hydrogen Inc. has unveiled plans for an $820-million investment in a cutting-edge sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facility in Southwest Illinois, with the utilization of KBR's alcohol-to-jet technology. The facility aims to generate up to 120 million gallons of ASTM-certified SAF per year, contributing significantly to the reduction of carbon emissions in the aviation sector and supporting Illinois' clean energy ambitions. The project, supported by key stakeholders including Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), is set to have a substantial impact on job creation and economic growth in the region. Emphasizing the environmental benefits, the facility is projected to prevent 25 million metric tons of carbon emissions annually, a crucial contribution to global emissions reduction efforts. Furthermore, the strategic location of the facility in Southwest Illinois, with access to existing rail and pipeline infrastructure for efficient SAF distribution to major airports like Chicago O'Hare International Airport, not only supports decarbonization objectives but also promises long-term economic advantages for the area. With the creation of 157 permanent jobs and 1,000 construction positions, the initiative is positioned to enhance the state's standing in the sustainable aviation fuel market.
