In New Delhi, India, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Sembcorp have announced a joint venture agreement to explore renewable energy and green hydrogen projects across the country. The partnership aims to support India's energy transition and development goals, with a focus on green ammonia production, bunkering, emissions reduction, and other green fuel technologies. The collaboration will utilize Sembcorp's renewables experience and BPCL's expertise in the petroleum sector to drive innovation-led sustainable solutions. BPCL has set ambitious climate goals, targeting net-zero emissions by 2040 in Scope 1 and 2, and plans to build a 10GW renewable energy portfolio to become a Net Zero Energy Company by 2040. On the other hand, Sembcorp is dedicated to decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors by utilizing green hydrogen and ammonia. With 6GW of renewables assets in India, Sembcorp is well-positioned to enable large-scale, low-cost green hydrogen production. The joint venture is seen as a significant step towards achieving sustainable energy solutions in India, with both companies committed to driving the transition towards a greener future.
