Cargolux and Arthur Welter have announced a collaboration to work on a hydrogen-powered truck project in Luxembourg. The project involves a two-year trial for a dedicated trucking service powered by hydrogen, operating five times a week between Luxembourg and Frankfurt. Richard Forson, President & CEO of Cargolux, highlighted the natural choice of Arthur Welter as a partner due to their longstanding relationship and shared ambition for the future of the industry. The initiative aims to demonstrate the potential of hydrogen in air cargo and showcase its adaptability in a dynamic sector. Viviane Welter, CEO of Arthur Welter Transports s.à.r.l, expressed the joint commitment to advancing emission-free road transport, despite recognizing the pioneering work required in hydrogen mobility. The collaboration between the companies intends to lead the way towards energy transition in the air cargo sector. Yuriko Backes, Minister of Mobility and Public Works, commended the introduction of hydrogen-powered trucking as a significant step in reducing emissions and enhancing logistics efficiency. She expressed confidence in the future registration of hydrogen-powered trucks in Luxembourg. The hydrogen-powered truck, tailored to meet air cargo requirements, has a range of approximately 400 kilometres and will be refueled at both ends of the journey due to limited hydrogen fueling facilities in the region.
