Denmark's Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has successfully secured A$814 million for its Murchison Green Hydrogen project in Western Australia from the Australian Government's Hydrogen Headstart program. This funding, equivalent to approximately $515.5 million, will support the development of one of the world's largest and most advanced commercial-scale green hydrogen and ammonia initiatives. The project, located north of Kalbarri in the Mid-West region, will utilize 6 GW of onshore wind and solar generation to produce around 1.8 million tonnes of green ammonia annually, primarily targeting Asian markets.
CIP's Partner, Karsten Uhd Plauborg, expressed gratitude for the funding, emphasizing the mutual vision with the Australian Government to establish a leading green hydrogen industry in Australia. The project's CEO, Shohan Seneviratne, highlighted their commitment to contributing to Australia's green hydrogen ambitions by creating local job opportunities, supporting skills development, and benefiting local communities, including First Nations.
Additionally, CIP is involved in other renewable energy projects such as the Dutch Zeevonk offshore wind-to-hydrogen project, in partnership with Sweden's Vattenfall, and the Anker green hydrogen production facility in Northern Germany. These endeavors underscore CIP's dedication to advancing green hydrogen technology and supporting decarbonization efforts globally.
