Japan's JERA and South Korea's POSCO International have signed a joint collaboration agreement to advance the development of low-carbon fuel value chains. The agreement includes plans for standardizing commercial frameworks, optimizing ammonia portfolios, and engaging with governments to establish and expand the low-carbon fuel value chain. This initiative is supported by the 'Japan-ROK Hydrogen and Its Derivatives such as Ammonia Cooperation Dialogue' program launched by the governments of Japan and Korea. Through this partnership, JERA and POSCO aim to lead the energy transition in Asia by accelerating decarbonization efforts, especially in Hard-to-Abate industries. In line with their commitment, JERA announced a new growth strategy in May 2024, focusing on three key business pillars: LNG, renewables, and hydrogen and ammonia. Each pillar will receive substantial investment, totaling 1-2 trillion yen per pillar, to achieve the company's 2050 zero-emission goals. Additionally, JERA introduced a new business unit, JERA Cross, dedicated to driving green transformation by leveraging energy, digital, and business transformation capabilities. Overall, the collaboration between JERA and POSCO, combined with JERA's strategic investments and commitment to sustainability, demonstrates a positive outlook towards advancing low-carbon fuel value chains and contributing to global decarbonization efforts.
