Costain, an infrastructure solutions company, has secured a significant front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract from bp to develop a new hydrogen pipeline network in Teesside, UK. The project involves the construction of a 31 km onshore pipeline distribution network to transport purified and dehydrated hydrogen from bp's upcoming hydrogen production facility to industrial end users. Expected to be completed by 2025, this initiative forms a part of the East Coast Cluster, known as H2Teesside (H2T), set to become a major blue hydrogen production site generating around 160,000 tonnes per year of low carbon hydrogen. The project's primary goal is to displace natural gas usage among industrial consumers, thereby promoting decarbonisation in the region. In parallel, Costain will continue its work on the onshore CO2 pipeline, emphasizing its commitment to sustainability and environmental progress.
