DEME has announced a significant milestone with the signing of a Cooperation Agreement with the Egyptian Government to establish a large-scale green hydrogen production facility in Egypt's western desert. This project, known as HYPORT Gargoub, will be situated within the industrial zone of the Port of Gargoub on Egypt's Mediterranean coast. The facility will be powered by wind and solar renewable energy infrastructure located 70 km southwest of Gargoub, connected by a dedicated high-voltage power line. The first phase of the project targets an annual production of approximately 320,000 tonnes of green ammonia. HYPORT Gargoub marks DEME's second major green hydrogen project, following the HYPORT Duqm initiative in Oman. By ensuring full integration of electricity and water generation, DEME aims to produce 100% green hydrogen molecules. CEO Luc Vandenbulcke expressed appreciation to the Egyptian Government, specifically President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and key ministers, for their support.
