The East Midlands' Mayor, Claire Ward, and Dr Jeevun Sandher MP recently participated in the East Midlands Hydrogen Summit at Loughborough University to discuss the region's pivotal role in the clean energy future. Mayor Ward shared plans to decarbonize the area and drive inclusive growth. Dr Sandher emphasized the significance of large-scale hydrogen projects in achieving decarbonization targets. The summit brought together industry leaders and government officials, including representatives from EMCCA, Cadent, and East Midlands Freeport, to showcase ongoing investments and innovations in the hydrogen sector. The event highlighted the contributions of East Midlands Hydrogen Consortium partners towards establishing a comprehensive hydrogen value chain, with the potential to reduce carbon dioxide emissions significantly. It was estimated that these efforts could lead to yearly carbon emissions savings equivalent to the removal of gas-related emissions from 860,000 homes.
