TE H2, TotalEnergies, and EREN Group, in partnership with VERBUND, have initiated a landmark project named 'H2 Notos' in Tunisia. The project aims to produce green hydrogen by leveraging renewable resources, such as wind and solar energy, and desalinated seawater. 'H2 Notos' plans to initially produce 200,000 tons of green hydrogen annually, with ambitions to scale up to one million tons per year. The project intends to export green hydrogen to Central Europe through the 'SoutH2 Corridor' pipeline project that connects North Africa to Italy, Austria, and Germany. TE H2 and VERBUND will handle the development, financing, construction, and operation of the project, with VERBUND overseeing the transportation of hydrogen to Central Europe. The initiative has been met with enthusiasm from stakeholders, with Tunisia's Minister of Industry highlighting its significance in the country's energy transition and attracting foreign investment in renewables. VERBUND's CEO emphasized the project's role in providing Europe with competitive green hydrogen and promoting sustainable economic development in Tunisia. This collaboration signifies a major step towards sustainable energy production and highlights the potential for green hydrogen to drive economic growth and job creation in Tunisia.
